1.          LieDM aim  

Is to develop and co-ordinate higher and continuous, information and telecommunication technology based education system, while seeking to promote the formation of Information Society in Lithuania.

The Lithuanian Distance Education Network (LieDM) was established in 1998, according to an investment project of the Lithuanian Government and passed through several phases of expansion financed by other national and EU projects. The following activities were completed while seeking to develop Lithuanian Distance Learning Network:

  • carrying out PHARE project 79-PHARE-LI-PAO a study “Distance Education In Lithuania” was prepared and “The National Strategy for Developing Lithuanian Distance Learning Network” was formed
 
  • carrying out national investment programmes „Development of Distance Learning in Lithuania (a project, conducted by LieDM in the year 1998-2005)“ and „Development of Distance Learning in Lithuania (a second project LieDM – 2 in the year 1999-2000), ITMiS programme and the project of European Union Structural Funds entitled “Development of Distance Learning Network in Lithuania Based on Information and Communication Technologies”.
  • At the moment Lithuanian Distance Learning Network is developing under the Programme Lithuanian Virtual University (2007-2012) which seeks: to foster e learning processes in virtual environment (EMSaS task); to develop Lithuania e-learning infrastructure (LieDM task); to develop integrated Lithuanian science and study information space (LABT task); to develop Lithuanian science and study planning, management and self-service infrastructure (LieMSIS task).
